Our refurbished hall is a new community resource that will serve the
immediate local communities of Coleridge, Queen Edith's and the wider Cambridge community as well as
the Greek community in Cambridge and beyond.
The Worshipful Mayor of Cambridge, Councillor Gerri Bird, gave a speech and unveiled the plaque
acknowledging the benefactors.
The Chevyn sermon is an Obit Service (i.e. by a request contained in the Will of Mr. Richard Chevyn
dated 1559). Members and Directors of the City Council assemble at the Guildhall and process to
church for the service. The Chevyn Sermon is preached for the second time in the mayoral year at a
venue of the Mayor's own choosing. This year the Mayor, Cllr. George Pippas, has chosen St.
Athanasios for the service.
After the service, the pupils of the Greek School of St. Athanasios gave a small presentation about
the Three Hierarchs, patron saints of letters, whose feast day is the 30th of January. The Mayor and
Mayoress hosted lunch for the whole community at the adjacent church hall.

young children of the community sang traditional New Year's songs, to applause from all. The
celebration continued with everyone being offered lunch at the community's hall.
